3 mobile announced today that it is cutting roaming charges in seven countries, including Italy, Ireland and Australia.  Customers will be charged the same rate whether they are in the UK or abroad, and do not need to sign-up for the service - everyone automatically gets it.

They have named the service “3 Like Home” … not exactly the most creative or catchy name. 

But credit to 3 for again shaking up the industry.  The European Commission has been looking into enforcing a limit on roaming fees, and none of the major networks have done much about it, bar reducing their charges a little.  This move might  make them think again.

3 has more than 3.75 million customers in the UK and more than 13.5 million worldwide.
