Sony Ericsson profits more than triple!
Sony Ericsson today stated that its quarterly profit increased by more than 200%, far exceeding analysts forecasts. Profit increased to €447m, compared to just €144m a year earlier.
These figures were primarily due to record sales of Walkman branded phones, which of course are at the high-end of the scale and have higher margins. SE is also less reliant on low-end phone sales in emerging markets, as Motorola and Nokia increasingly are.
SE seems to have benefited largely due to Motorola’s plumeting fortunes, with gains in market share also coming from Samsung - gaining 1% share in total.
Sony Ericsson’s positioning in the market as the “tech/features” leader, along with very strong branding (Walkman particularly), has put them in a strong position, and I can only see them going from strength to strength.
