Sky quad-play looming?

Sky, which already offers broadband, telephone and TV services, today upped its carriage fees - sparking rumours that it could be getting closer to a mobile offering.

Quad-play is the holy grail for technology companies at the moment, with NTL:Telewest the first to complete the circle with the purchase of Virgin.

Sky launched a huge marketing campaign for its current triple play offering, billed as “See, Speak, Surf” - and claims to undercut NTL:Telewest by £10 a month.

So will Sky get into the mobile space?  Will they partner up with an existing network as an MVNO?  T-mobile is always the favourite for new MVNO offerings.

The real question is: Will Sky benefit from having its own mobile phone brand, or would it be better partnering with one of the existing mega-brands?  Time will tell.
