Vodafone secures MySpace exclusivity

Vodafone Live! MyspaceThe sixth most visited site on the internet is to be available on your mobile, exclusively through Vodafone’s Live! service.  The deal allows Vodafone Live! customers to interact in most normal ways with the social networking site, including uploading photos, posting on blogs and profiles and responding to emails.

It will require software, which will be available for free download to Vodafone Live! handsets.  From this point on, new handsets will start to have it pre-installed.

It’s hard to believe that Vodafone has managed to secure an exclusive deal.  With MySpace in the hands of serious investors (Fox Interactive), one would think they would be looking at ways to maximise mobile coverage across a number of networks.  Vodafone must be digging deep in the coffers (not like they are short of cash) to pay for this, because the recognition of MySpace means it will become a major selling tool.  Even my gran has heard of MySpace.

Expect to see some large scale advertising soon.
